Bonn – The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission discussed the current status of Uzbekistan at its last meeting on 4 September 2020.

At the meeting, the Council examined a draft decision of the Eurasian Supreme Economic Council on whether Uzbekistan should be granted the status of an observer state to the EMU.

The final decision is still pending and will be taken by the Heads of State of the Union.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has significantly developed bilateral cooperation with the EMU countries. In the years 2016-2019, total trade between Uzbekistan and the Union states increased by 60 percent to USD 8.4 billion. Today, Uzbekistan’s share of foreign trade with the EAWU is 30 percent. The volume of agricultural exports exceeds 75 percent.
